Makes Me Think of Mario

I pulled off a trade with Cam over at The Bullpen Cardboard.

I sent over a Morgan Ensberg jersey card and in return got this Andrew Miller from the 2009 UD X set. When I set eyes on it, I instantly thought of famed blogger Mario Alejandro of the original Wax Heaven. When I returned to the hobby in 08, I found Wax Heaven and was hooked on Mario's honest, easy-going style. His use of cards as it relates to pop culture has yet to be duplicated. He was also great at spotting odd eBay cards, and writing funny things about them. I miss Wax Heaven. Yeah, I know there is still a Wax Heaven... but it's in name only. I think it should be called something else. If it was renamed, it would be added to my daily reading list. As it is, I feel like I'm cheating on an old friend by going to the new blog.

Cam was also kind enough to throw in an assortment of additional Tigers cards.

Shown here are a 2009 UD A Piece of History Verlander, a 2009 UD Series II Granderson Turquoise, an 08 UD First Edition Inge, and most cooly, a 1977 Topps Chuck Scriener. Little did Chuck know, a spindly kid named Whitaker was waiting in the wings.

  1. Unfortunately... I think Wax Heaven is dead. Even the new guy doesn't post things anymore. WH is gone, but not forgotten. Mario was one of the things that inspired me to start my blog... and I'll still go back and read an article of his from time to time.
