I headed the 20 minutes to Holland Michigan for the 13th annual Super Bowl Spectacular Sports Card and memorabilia show. I had a $20 dollar budget. I also took along a few cards to try and trade.
The show is set in a very old basketball arena. The Hope College sports teams played here for decades. There were about 50 tables. Many of the usual dealers were on hand. I brought along a few want lists, but totally struck out on that front. "Leave me your list" was the common answer.
I was looking for some 1967 Topps... cheap. Strike two. One guy had a crap load of them, but he wanted a buck apiece for them.
I spotted a book with 2011 Topps in it. Yes, shiny cards. Ichiro and shiny. I decided to buy all the guy had. Below is my total haul from the show. Price tag, $7 bucks.
As I wandered around looking through quarter boxes, dollar boxes, and at great cards behind glass, I was hit with the realization that I have a damn nice collection. I could be on the other side of the table. "Do I really need to buy more cards?" kept playing over and over in my head. No, I don't need more cards. I stopped and bought a bouquet of flowers for the sewingmachinegal with my $13 bucks. Win win.
I wish I had the same mentality as you.
