Two Things; Card Show Today ~ Graded Kaline

FROM M-LIVE: For the fifth year in a row, a famous former Detroit Tiger headlines Lee High School annual card show and silent auction. Denny McLain, the last pitcher to post a 30-win season in the major leagues (31-6 in 1968), is scheduled to sign autographs from noon to 3 p.m. at the Lee gymnasium on Saturday. McLain is signing with three members of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. McLain will sign autographs for a suggested donation of $5 or above. The three women’s baseball players, Donna Cook, Marilyn Jenkins and Rosemary Stevenson, are signing for suggested donations of $2 or above. Cook, Jenkins and Stevenson were members of the Grand Rapids Chicks, who were active from 1945-1954. All proceeds go toward the upkeep of Stubby Overmire Field and the Lee baseball program. The field is named after Frank “Stubby” Overmire, who played for the Detroit Tigers from 1943-49 and coached from 1963-66. The show is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a silent auction at 5 p.m. Included in the auction are Sandy Koufax baseballs, 1968 Detroit Tigers memorabilia and autographed baseballs from the 2010 World Series champion San Francisco Giants.

I will be at the show right at 9 when it opens. This time, I will be offering my autograph free to all who ask.

I added a graded 1970 Al Kaline card to the collection. This one is a PSA 7 with a ST qualifier. I have looked at this card with a magnifying glass, and I can not spot a stain. There must be some invisible stain that only the keenist of graders can spot. The corners are sharp and the centering is excellent.

$22 bucks shipped from eBay.

  1. (ST) usually means that it was the last card in the wax pack, "staining" the back (or front sometimes) of the card.
